Larissa Puls, President

Board of Directors

Board President

Larissa has lived in the City of Greater Sudbury for the past decade. She is a proud parent, raising her children in a francophone environment. She works as a French Immersion teacher, and has degrees in Biology, Forestry and Education. Larissa is currently employed with the Rainbow District School Board. Larissa has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2010 and has been active on many committees.

Claire Valtins joined the OCOF Board of Directors in June 2016, bringing 25 years of experience in the children’s service sector in the areas of health, mental health and education. For more than 15 years, Claire has maintained a management position working with, Northeast Mental Health Centre as Program Manager with Integrated Services for Northern Children, Child and Family Centre as Program Manager for various children’s mental health programs and currently with Health Sciences North as Supervisor with the Infant and Child Development Services including Children’s Treatment Centre, rural Service Manager. Claire is an active participant at the community children’s tables and contributes in community wide cross sector planning for children and families across the district of Sudbury/Manitoulin. Claire is a graduate of Laurentian University with a BA in Psychology and is an OACCPP (cand).

Board Director

Calvin is a life- long resident of Sudbury. He is a graduate of Laurentian University and Lakehead University. He has been a classroom teacher with the Rainbow District School Board since 2006. The majority of his teaching carer has been in kindergarten and primary grades. Prior to this, Calvin taught kindergarten in a fly-in First Nation’s community in Northern Ontario. Calvin is passionate about early learning and the importance of a strong learning foundation. Calvin has volunteered with many organizations within the community and has a particular interest in equity, social justice and mental health.

Board Vice-President

Francine is the Payroll Manager for Health Sciences North. Francine has held various management positions as a Certified Professional Accountant, helping senior managers make timely decisions with financial data. Francine is serving her second (2nd) year as Treasurer of the OCOF Board of Directors and is the volunteer Board Member on the City of Greater Sudbury’s Child Care System Review Working Group. Francine has been a member of OCOF Board of Directors since 2012.

Board Treasurer

Steve is a graduate of Laurentian University Honours Bachelor of Commerce Program and currently enrolled in the Certified General Accountant Program. Steve is currently employed with Health Sciences North Sudbury as an Accountant. Steve has been a member of the OCOF Board of Directors since 2013 and brings his financial expertise to the Board.

Board Director

Melanie is a Registered Social Worker employed with Health Sciences North Sudbury. Melanie has experience working in different areas of the hospital including General Medicine, Children’s Treatment Centre, Oncology and Palliative Care. Melanie is a proud parent and former employee of Our Children, Our Future and she is very passionate about the future of today’s children and wants to continue giving back to the community. Melanie has been a member of the OCOF Board of Directors since 2011 and has actively participated in many board committees.

Jennifer graduated from Brock University in 2006 win an Honours BA degree in Philosophy. Jennifer also graduated from Cambrian College’s Developmental Services Worker program in December 2010 and spent a semester as an exchange student with City University of Hong Kong. Jennifer is currently employed with Cambrian College in a teaching capacity. Jennifer has been a member of the OCOF Board of Directors since 2012 as our rural representative and has actively participated in many Board committees.

Bernadette has been teaching for the Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario for the last 15 years. Being the resource teacher at ecole publique Jean-Ethier-Blais, she is always looking for opportunities to develop her personal knowledge to help students become the very best. She has a personal interest in understanding the needs of children with attention deficit disorders, children with speech difficulties and children with learning difficulties. Bernadette has been a member of the OCOF Board of Directors since June 2013 and is one of our francophone representatives.

Amanda has lived in Sudbury all her life and will continue to grow her family here. Amanda has grown up and been involved in operating small businesses, as her family own and operate two local businesses. Amanda is involved within the community volunteering for the Ten Rainbows Foundation. Amanda has been employed with the Sudbury Catholic District School Board for seven (7) years teaching in the elementary panel. Amanda has been a member of the OCOF Board of Directors since April 2013.

Board Director

Vincent is a retired Inco maintenance employee with 30 years of service. Vincent graduated from the electrical apprenticeship program as a 1st class electrician and was promoted to supervisor for the last 10 years of his employment. After retirement, Vincent was elected as a Councilor for the Municipality of French River serving three consecutive terms of office. After 15 years of public service, Vincent and his wife Colette decided to move to the City of Greater Sudbury. Vincent is a board member with the Sudbury/Manitoulin Children's Aid society as well as a board member at Cooperative Funeral Home in Sudbury, Chelmsford and Hanmer. Vincent joined OCOF Board of Directors in June 2015, appointed to Finance and Fundraising committees.
